Dublinia at Christchurch

Dublinia is one of the most popular visitor attractions in the city. The exhibition portrays life in medieval Dublin from the coming of the Anglo-Normans in 1170 to the closure of the monasteries and the Reformation circa 1540. Dublinia’s aim is to interpret and explore medieval heritage and to entertain and educate visitors from Ireland and overseas.

The scale model of Dublin shows how the walled city and its suburbs would have looked towards the end of the Middle Ages, c.1500. Much had changed since the coming of the Anglo-Normans in 1170 and several features represented on the model date from the Viking Age. Christ Church Cathedral stands right in the middle of the Hiberno-Norse town while Dublin Castle was located in the south-eastern angle of the walls.

How to get there
Dublinia is located in the heart of the medieval city, south of the River Liffey, beside Christchurch Cathedral, a 10 minute walk from Trinity College and a five minute walk from St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
