'Mammography' from 'A Picture of Health', an exhibition focusing on the subject of breast cancer, currently on display at Blanchardstown Librar

CONTEMPORARY art gets the thumbs up at Blanchardstown Library this month with the launch of a six week course from next Wednesday (October 8).

Draiocht will present the 'Understanding Contemporary Art' course which is designed provide a step by step introduction to the development of contemporary art in the 20th century.

The course costs e30 and will be delivered by artist Darragh Hogan, director of the Kerlin Gallery at Anne's Lane in Dublin 2, and Roisin Kennedy, who has taught at UCD.

Genealogy workshops for beginners will start on October 7 and will run for 10 weeks. The classes start run for two hours from 6.15pm. Anyone interested should leave their name at the Information Desk on 8905563.

Action Breast Cancer will have the 'Picture of Health' exhibition on display in the library until Friday (October 3). The exhibition is a series of 23 paintings, which explores and investigates the theme of breast cancer and its treatments. October is the month of International Breast Cancer Awareness.

The Tolka River Project will have a selection of its work on display from October 13 until October 24.

Fingal Enterprise Day takes place on October 29, from 12 noon to 9.30pm in the Draiocht Arts Centre and Blanchardstown Public Library.

This is an exhibition and an information event for aspiring entrepreneurs. Experts from Fingal County Enterprise Board, Fingal County Council, the Department of Social and Family Affairs and FAS will be at hand to answer questions.

To coincide with the Business Talks, the Reference Library has a range of materials on display with some valuable information on starting a new business.

The Irish Titanic Historical Society will give two talks in the library on October 18, including 'Titanic at Home' which will be given by Una Reilly, co-founder of the Ulster Titanic Society.

The Blanchardstown Library book club's morning classes will meet on October 23 at 10.30am when Monica Ali's book 'Brick Lane' will be discussed. Details for the evening book club in October have not been finalised. Ring 8905563 for further details.

The Irish Conversation Group will meet every Thursday evening at 7.30pm, from tomorrow (October 2).

Free Irish classes for beginners are held on Monday and Tuesday evenings at 7pm, but are fully booked.

The Junior Library holds a parent and toddler group from 10.30-11.30 every Monday and Thursday morning. New Members are always welcome. For further details ring 8905561.

St Brigid's Photography Group meet every Wednesday evening from 7pm to 8.20pm in Meeting Room Four. New members are always welcome.

The Conversation Exchange Group which provides the opportunity to practice speaking English, meets on Wednesday (7pm-8.20pm) and Saturdays at 3pm.

The Lecture Room, Assembly Room and the Cyberskills Training Room are available to be booked by community groups. Please contact the information desk at 8905563 for further information.
