Retirement Living – With a difference

ATG Retirement Village in Limerick offers something new and innovative for the discerning retiree. Cohousing is a type of lifestyle that combines living in your own home in a modern private retirement village with an option to avail of an increased level of social interaction and activity derived from sharing a communal building and green areas with your neighbours.

Hugely successful throughout Europe, Australia and the USA, the concept of cohousing is the ideal option for those wishing to enhance life after retirement. With cohousing, neighbourly support for an independent, active and secure lifestyle occurs naturally. This type of lifestyle offers the ideal antidote to the modern epidemics of loneliness, inactivity, financial uncertainty and security.

This generation of retirees are far more discerning than previous generations. People are looking for a more socially interactive lifestyle and for a quality of life that was not available to retirees in Ireland to date. Downsizing is a much-mooted cure for everything from saving money to freeing up homes for younger families. However, downsizing cannot be an option unless quality homes in attractive settings are made available. ATG Retirement Village ticks all the boxes.

ATG’s Muriel O’Sullivan explains “we provide a safe, secure and stress-free environment in a comfortable 2 bedroom home where in almost all circumstances there will never be a need for residential care in later life”. Located only 2 hours from Dublin and about 15 minutes from Shannon airport the village offers ideal connectivity and residents have come from far and wide. The houses are also large enough for friends and family to stay over. Restricting the age of acceptance to over 50 promotes a more favourable community of individuals with similar needs she explained.

The village boasts beautiful homes each with its own rear garden so privacy is guaranteed at all times. These homes are located around a club house which is designed for daily use and is restricted exclusively to the residents of Cois Carraig. Muriel explains that because the village is being constructed as we speak ATG have immediate vacancies. “Currently there are 2 newly built homes ready for immediate occupation”. Given the lack of suitable retirement accommodation nationwide demand is very strong and ATG are very pleased with the level of interest expressed to date.

On his recent visit, Minister for Health, Jim Daly said that the people of Cois Carraig had found much more than a place to live. They had formed a community which he described as very special indeed.
