A LOCAL councillor has called for an increased Garda presence in the Bawnogue area of Clondalkin to tackle drug dealing and the increased presence of burnt-out cars.

Cllr Francis Timmons (Ind) revealed there were recently eight burnt-out cars in the canal field. He said that local residents had complained about open drug dealing and criminal activity in the community.

“There is a notable increase in people coming into the area to buy crack and weed and local residents are sick of it,” Cllr Timmons claimed. “I have had a lot of contact from residents and have reported their concerns to South Dublin County Council’s anti-social unit and the gardaí, who both need to act swiftly to deal with the issue.

“I know some arrests have been made of late and some progress is being made but the residents who have contacted me feel there is a lack of action and this simply would not be allowed to continue if it were anywhere else.”

Cllr Timmons has asked the council to remove any burnt-out cars and look at ways of making it more difficult to access the canal area.

Cllr Timmons urged people to contact Clondalkin Garda station on 01-6667600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or Crimestoppers Freefone on 1800 250 050 to report any crimes in the area.
