A special screening of ‘Finding Nemo’ will take place in Sandymount this Friday.

A CHARITY screening of ‘Finding Nemo’ will take place on Sandymount Green this Friday, September 6, at 8.30pm.

The family-friendly event is being hosted by the Sandymount Matero Friendship Programme (SMFP).

Sandymount’s friendship with Matero Parish in Lusaka is celebrating its 10th anniversary. In 2009, the community gave its first donation to give direct help to St Mary’s School. Once only feeding 70 children, the programme has since made a major contribution to the school’s expansion to now include 570 pupils who need food and support. A €20 monthly standing order can feed five children for a month at the school.

This year, the goal is to raise €30,000 to fund the friendship programme.

Life in Matero is extremely challenging, especially for children who battle extreme poverty, hunger, ill health, poor and unsanitary housing on a daily basis.

All funds raised from the event will go directly to St Mary’s Community School in Matero, Lusaka, in Zambia.

Co-founder of the programme, James Meenan, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating our 10th anniversary. It is an astonishing achievement to see where we have come from to where we are today. None of this would have been possible without the incredible continuous generosity and support given to us throughout the years.

“As this is our 10th year, we are pushing the boundaries and chasing a target of €30,000 annually to sustain the necessary expansion of the programme. Any donation is appreciated, be it big or small. We look forward to welcoming everyone this Friday for a fantastic evening.”

Admission to the ‘Movie on the Green’ this week is €5 (€20 per family).
