A Family Fun Day will be held on Sunday, September 16, at Cherrywood to celebrate the completion of 82 acres of parkland, playing pitches and other recreational amenities.

The Family Fun Area will be open from 11am to 3pm at the new 22-acre flagship Tully Park in Cherrywood, with free kids’ entertainment including a treasure hunt, bouncy castles, a family picnic area, face painting, and much more.

The event also features a 5k fun run in aid of a new paediatric playground at the National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH)in Dún Laoghaire. Irish rugby international and fitness coach, Megan Williams, will lead a warm-up before Family Fun MC, Kathryn Thomas, officially opens the run at 12 noon from Tully Park.

Registration for the 5k event is now open at Free parking will be provided for all visitors at Cherrywood Business Park, where shuttle buses will ferry attendees to and from the Fun Day at Tully Park.

Speaking ahead of at the Family Day in Cherrywood, Brian Moran, managing director of Hines Ireland, said: “We are very proud of these state-of-the-art recreation and environmental amenities that will provide a modern, healthy and vibrant resource for the local Cherrywood community and beyond. We hope that families, runners, walkers and joggers can join us for a day of fun while exploring our brand new parks, pitches and walking trails.”

The completed recreational amenities include three parks, multi-use playing pitches, a kids’ play area, new roadways, cycle paths and greenways, as well as 3,000 trees planted as part of the first phase of development at Cherrywood. The parks and recreational amenities will eventually serve an expected population of 25,000 residents, living in 8,000 homes to be constructed across the entire Cherrywood SDZ.

Earlier this year, Hines secured planning permission for the new Cherrywood Town Centre development, which will include 1,269 apartments and 585,000 sq ft of retail and leisure outlets comprising shopping, restaurants and cafés. Work on this exciting next phase of development will commence in October with the construction of brand new apartments.

Cherrywood Town Centre alone will eventually be home to over 3,200 people, with the potential to accommodate 2,300 office workers and employment for more than 2,500 retail staff.

Planning permission was also recently granted for a new primary school at Tully Park, which has been designed to accommodate up to 700 primary pupils.
