A SEASONAL Charity Luncheon is to be hosted in Dublin with all funds raised to ensure RNLI crews can continue to save lives.

Honouring the work undertaken by RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews in Dublin and throughout Ireland, the British Irish Chamber of Commerce is hosting the event that is open to businesses and organisations.

During Storm Ophelia RNLI crews launched into extremely challenging conditions to ensure people were safe.

This fundraising event for the RNLI will take place in the Shelbourne Hotel at 12.30pm on November 16.

A 5-Star raffle will be held with many fabulous prizes from RTÉ, CityJet, the InterContinental Hotel, Applegreen, Nuala Woulfe and many more.

Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern will deliver the keynote address at the event that will be followed by first-hand accounts of the lifesaving work undertaken by the volunteer crewmembers from Dún Laoghaire RNLI.

In announcing the event, John McGrane, the Director-General of the British Irish Chamber of Commerce, said: “In the RNLI, the Chamber sees an organisation that demonstrates the strong ties between coastal communities across Great Britain and Ireland.

“The lifesaving work undertaken by the RNLI crews is awe-inspiring and speaks to the strength of the bonds across all islands.

“The Chamber’s event on  November 16 in Dublin will support the valuable work undertaken by the RNLI with all monies raised going directly to help finance the lifeboat service and their drowning prevention work.

“What better way to show your support for the bravery of the RNLI volunteers?”

Tickets for the event can be purchased via the British Irish Chamber website.

In welcoming the organisation of the event, Gareth Morrison, Head of Engagement, RNLI added: “The RNLI is delighted to have been chosen by the British Irish Chamber of Commerce as their nominated charity for this year’s Seasonal Charity Luncheon.

“As Storm Ophelia showed recently, our volunteer lifeboat crew stand ready to launch in all conditions to save others in distress or difficulty.

“In 2016, their efforts saved 431 lives in the UK and Ireland.

“Support like this is vital to the charity to enable us to continue saving lives.

“Proceeds will also go to support our ‘Respect the Water’ campaign aimed at halving the number of coastal drownings by 2024.”

For those wishing to book a ticket to the charity event and demonstrate their support for the work undertaken by the RNLI and its volunteers in coastal communities on the east coast, contact the Chamber’s event manager at alison.cotter@britishirishchamber.com.

Tickets are on sale now at a cost of €150 per seat with all proceeds going directly to the RNLI.

The event is being made possible by the support provided by various well-known brands including LK Shields, Morgan McKinley, Tilman Brewin Dolphin and Kennedy Wilson.
