The inaugural Northside People Community and Sports Awards 2017 are underway tonight in the Carlton Hotel at Dublin Airport, with broadcaster Joe Duffy doing the honours as MC.

Due to the high quality of nominees submitted by our readers, our judges were faced with a near-impossible task in drawing up their shortlist for each of the 10 categories. However, after careful deliberations, the following have been nominated for an award in each category.


Club of the Year: Cumann Baire Setanta, Ballymun; Darndale Boxing Club; Fingallians GAA Club.

Team of the Year: St Finians Under 15 Camogie/Gaelic Football Team; Shelbourne FC Ladies Team; Baldoyle United FC.

Young Sports Person of the Year: Aoife Hopkins, Jessica Ziu, Eliza Bluma.

Outstanding Achievement Award: Liam Daly, Dick Fields, Robyn Byrne

Coach of the Year: Nicholas Duffy, Fionntan MacGibb, Paul Keane


Best School in the community: Belvedere College; St Michaels House, Baldoyle, Pobalscoil Neasáin

Volunteer of the Year: John (Sammy) Donnelly, Olive Kelly, Helen Thompson

Business in the Community: Clodagh Bury, Slim4Life; Laverty’s Pharmacy, Ballymun; Top Oil

Young Community Person of Year: Stephen James, Dylan Lynch, Stephen Lally

Community & Neighbourhood Group: Bohemian Foundation; Christine Keegan, Stardust Relatives and Victims’ Committee; Portmarnock Arch Club.

One winner will be selected from each category for an award. In addition, there will be an overall award for sport and community at the end of the night
