OVER 200 people from Dublin 15 athletics club Metro St Brigid’s (MSB) joined in regular runners and walkers for an extra special Parkrun earlier this month.

Led by Run Director and MSB member, Stephen McGuinness, MSB club members successfully carried out all the usual Porterstown Parkrun volunteer roles from marshalling and barcode scanning to timing and tail walker.

The damp weather conditions didn’t deter MSB members Kenny McAndrew and Karen Finnigan who were first male and first female over the line.

The free, 5k timed event, also attracted visitors from various athletic and triathlon clubs including Porterstown Panthers, 3D Tri Club, Civil Service Harriers, Donore Harriers, Lakeshore Striders and the Garda Athletics Club.

Participants from the new six-week ‘Park Walk’ walking initiative were also given a warm welcome by MSB volunteers, some of whom walked with participants to provide support and encouragement.

MSB used the pre-event briefing to promote their ‘MSB St Patrick’s Festival 5K Race and Family Fun Run’, that’s happening on Monday, March 18.

“We are delighted to be volunteering at Porterstown Parkun,” said Run Director, Stephen McGuiness.

“Volunteers are the backbone of every Parkrun.

“We want to give back to our local Parkrun and provide regular volunteers with the opportunity to walk, run or jog the event.

“As part of the takeover, we are here today to let people know about the MSB St Patrick’s Festival 5k Race and Family Fun Run.

“Happening on March 18, the course takes you through the heart of Georgian Dublin and is suitable for families, fun runners and dedicated athletes.

”There are still a few spaces available on so sign up soon.”

McGuiness also praised and thanked Paul from ‘Get Fresh Super Foods’ in Laurel Lodge, Dublin 15, who supplied two big boxes of fresh fruit.

And a delicious celebratory cake was provided by Lisa Gardner from ‘Cakes and Cooks by Lisa’.
