THE students from Beneavin de la Salle College don’t often get praised for lying around, but that’s exactly what happened at the Northside school earlier this month.

The school organised a charity sleep-in to raise money for a well-deserved charity that helps the city’s homeless community.

The Big Sleep was held to raise badly needed funds for both the Homeless Mobile Run and the Simon Community.

The Homeless Mobile Run is a charity very close to the school’s heart.

It was set up by Peter Murphy or ‘Saint Peter’ as he is known to those aware of his dedication to making sure the homeless are not forgotten.

Every Wednesday Peter and his volunteers travel from his house in Ballyfermot to the city centre to deliver essential supplies to the homeless, which of course includes Peter’s mother’s now famous coddle.

This is the second year the Beneavin boys have worked with Peter and the students were only too happy to show their support for his charity.

This year students from first to sixth year gave up their home comforts and their Friday night in order to sleep on the cold hard floor of the assembly area to show some solidarity with the homeless.

Their sacrifice succeeded in raising a massive €4,000 for those less fortunate than themselves.

Well done to all who took part!
