FORGET about the back-to-school blues – summer is about to go out with a bang at Smithfield Square this weekend.

While thoughts will be turning to schoolbooks, uniforms and what to put into lunchboxes next week, you can treat yourself to some great summer fun on Smithfield’s famous cobblestones.

Dublin Fun Fest, a last blast of summer fun, will take place this Sunday, August 27. Organised by Dublin City Council, the event offers free entertainment and will be the perfect way to spend a day with family and friends.

It promises to be an invigorating event from start to finish with lots of fun activities for visitors of all ages. The festival will invite young sports enthusiasts to test their skills in the kiddies’ decathlon; challenge their friends and family on the balance buddy; bean bag toss; or take part in a Zumba class.

There be a number of tasty food offerings from crepes to Brazilian BBQs, as well as a variety of inflatable games on offer, including basketball shoot out, sumo wrestling inflatable ring, bouncy boxing ring, soccer penalty shootout and giant Jenga.

Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr Mícheál MacDonncha, said “This is a fantastic family friendly event that encourages people of all ages to get outside, get active and celebrate our stunning city. With free entertainment all day, it’s a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon in our Capital.”

Kathryn Byrne, event manager of Dublin Fun Fest, added: “This event promises to be an unforgettable day out for the whole family. Whether you like sports or dance or if you just fancy enjoying a coffee or some delicious food, Smithfield Square is the place to come and soak up the fun atmosphere.”

Dublin Fun Fest runs from 12 noon to 5pm at Smithfield Square.
