Joe Duffy will once again be MC on the night.

There's just one day to go to the Northside People Community & Sports Awards 2019, which will take place on Friday, November 29, in the Carlton Hotel at Dublin Airport.

This is the third year of the awards, which will once again be hosted by popular broadcaster Joe Duffy.

A total of 30 nominees have been shortlisted for awards across 10 categories. There will also be overall winners for sport and community.

Nominations were submitted by our readers and considered by our judging panel: Tony McCullagh, group editor, Dublin People; Anthony Cooney, CEO of Fingal Dublin Chamber; Marion Brown, principal sports officer, Fingal County Council; and Laura Dowdall, director of the Viking Theatre in Clontarf.

After careful consideration, the judges’ shortlisted nominees are:

Young Sportsperson of the Year
Niamh O’Doherty, Richard, Birkby and Joe Byrne/Matthew Rankin

Team of the Year
Raheny All Stars, Transplant Team Ireland, Man O’War GFC Ladies

Coach of the Year
Sean Russell, Paul Cumiskey, Davina Cummins

Club of the Year
Trinity Heroes, Trackside LTC, Fingal Rowing Club

Outstanding Achievement in Sport
John Moran, Robyn McDonnell and Siobhan O’Connor

Young Community Person
Katie Black, Conleth Dundon, Sarah Challoner

Volunteer of the Year
Allison Leetch, Claire Ann Ferry, Tom O’Neill

Business of the Year
Des Kelly (Swords), Myo’s of Castleknock, Edel Lawlor (Slimming World, Marino/Drumcondra)

Carer in the Community
Audrey O’Reilly, NCBI Iona Resource Centre, Tony Walsh

Best School in the Community
Blanchardstown Community Training Centre, St Brigid’s GNS Glasnevin, Mary Mother of Hope NS, Littlepace

Group editor of Dublin People, Tony McCullagh, paid tribute to all the shortlisted nominees.

“It was a very difficult decision for our judges choosing a winner for each category as, once again, they were all of a very high standard,” he said. “We look forward to highlighting and celebrating the achievements of all our nominees on Friday night.

“There are some very moving stories to be told and we’re all looking forward to what is always a really inspirational and uplifting event.”
