A TOTAL of €120,000 has been allocated for improvements to Loughshinny and Ballyboughal as part of €15 million in funding for rural communities

Minister for Rural and Community Development Michael Ring made the announcement.

A total of 156 rural towns and villages across the country will benefit from the funding under the 2019 Town and Village Renewal Scheme.

The scheme is a key part of the Action Plan for Rural Development and the Government’s Project Ireland 2040 Rural Regeneration Programme.

Funding awarded to individual towns and villages this year generally ranges from €20,000 to €100,000, with 26 projects receiving between €100,000 and €200,000 for more ambitious proposals.

Dublin Fingal TD Alan Farrell (FG) said he particularly welcomed the news for local residents.

“I am delighted to confirm that €100,000 is being provided under this scheme for the design, development and installation of a children’s playground in Loughshinny while €20,000 is being granted to Ballyboughal for public realm works and the renovation of the entrance to Ballyboughal burial ground,” said Deputy Farrell.

“These excellent initiatives will ensure our smaller towns and villages are more attractive and sustainable places in which to live and work.”

Minister Ring said: “The benefit of previous funding under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme is now being felt countrywide and I am delighted to be able to allocate a further €15 million for projects in 156 towns and villages right across rural Ireland.”
