THE Irish Wheelchair Association, based in Clontarf, has been recognised at an awards ceremony.

The organisation was announced as the Homecare/Assisting Living Provider of the Year at the HSE’s prestigious Irish Healthcare Centre Awards as well as being finalists in an unrivalled 11 other award categories.

The IWA’s Resource Outreach Centre provides a wide range of services for people with physical disabilities across North Dublin.

Service users and staff were celebrating four local nominations for North Dublin services, including Day Centre of the Year, General Healthcare Centre of the Year, and Healthcare Initiatives of the Year in mental health for young people, and older persons’ services.

IWA service user Kayleigh McKevitt attended the awards ceremony and took to the stage to accept an award on behalf of the organisation.

“It was a great night and I’m delighted that IWA was recognised for all they do,” said Kayleigh.

“They’ve really supported me in loads of ways. I have my own apartment now with an Assisted Living service that helps me to live independently, and I’m doing a QQI training programme in IWA now and planning for my future. And I’m part of IWA Youth Service and I volunteer doing Disability Awareness workshops.” For more information about the Irish Wheelchair Association in north Dublin phone 01-818 6400 or visit www.iwa.ie
