View More ImagesTHE queues in Blanchardstown weren’t as long as Krispy Kreme’s frenzied launch in Ireland last year but the doughnuts were just as delicious for those who waited in line to help the store celebrate its first birthday on September 25.
Doughnut lovers started queuing outside the theatre store from 6.30am to add to the 600,000 customers who’ve already been through its doors over the past 12 months.
The iconic American doughnut chain has sold approximately over 6.6 million doughnuts in Blanchardstown, making it the brand’s most successful store opening internationally.
The most popular purchase is the Krispy Kreme ‘dozen box’ and the brand has literally stolen the heart of the nation, being the gift of choice on Valentine’s Day when over 10,000 heart-shaped doughnuts were served on February 14 earlier this year.
The Original Glazed (OG) doughnut is the most popular among Irish customers.
The Dublin 15 store in the Blanchardstown Centre sold over 2.3 million units since the store opened –that’s one OG sold every two minutes and if they were lined up, side by side, they’d stretch from Dublin to Dundalk, and back again.
The second most popular doughnut is the Nutty Chocolatta but smaller treats are also proving a hit with Irish customers, with over 280,000 Krispy Kreme single ‘Bites’, also sold in the last 12 months.
To mark its first birthday, Krispy Kreme created a limited edition birthday treat, the O’riginal Party doughnut, which was sold until September 29.
The signature-glazed ring was hand dipped in candy floss-flavoured icing; vanilla flavoured frosting and finished with sprinkles.
Alex Drysdale, Krispy Kreme Country Director Ireland, said the first year had been truly remarkable for the brand.
“I speak for the entire team at the store when I say a big ‘thank you’ to all our customers for making it a year to remember,” he said.
