A TEAM of local footballers will be representing Ireland this week in the qualifying rounds of the 2019/2020 UEFA Futsal Champions League.

Blue Magic FC Dublin, who have been playing Futsal in Ireland since 2009, will play three matches in Preliminary Round Group C against Futsal Club Csikszereda, AEK Futsal and Futsal Minerva. Sporting CP are defending champions.

Futsal is a small-sided indoor soccer game played between two soccer teams of five players each. Unlike the more normal yellow indoor ball that has a fur texture the Futsal football is a size 4 leather ball.

The matches are played on a hard court surface with boundary lines similar to outdoor soccer. Matches are divided into two halves of 20 minutes’ duration each. The emphasis of the game is on skill and creativity within limited space.
