AFTER 25 weeks of rigorous training, 27 recruits participated in the Recruit Passing-Out Parade at the Fire Brigade Training Centre in Marino.

Speaking at the event, Lord Mayor of Dublin Nial Ring said: “We are proud to have trained this class of recruits. The calibre of the recruits passing out is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the instructors and of the recruits themselves.

“Dublin Fire Brigade provides a vital service to the City and County of Dublin and I have no doubt that all firefighters joining the ranks of Dublin Fire Brigade will continue to uphold that proud tradition of selfless service to others.”  The recruits demonstrated some of the skills they have developed over the course of their training including exercises in dealing with hazardous materials and road traffic collisions.

In addition to their basic training, recruits have received specialist instruction in the use of breathing apparatus to enable them to deal with backdraughts and flashovers.

The training programme also included fire and rescue training and paramedic training.

External instructors including An Garda Síochana, Dublin Bus and Luas were also on hand to provide expert training. Having undergone meticulous instruction, the new recruits graduated with the knowledge and specialist skills which will equip them to work alongside their professional fire-fighter and paramedic colleagues in Dublin Fire Brigade. The Lord Mayor presented a Silver Axe to the best recruit, Matt Crehan.
