FINE Gael has added Senator Catherine Noone to its ticket to contest the next general election in the Dublin Bay North constituency.

Senator Noone will run for the party alongside seasoned campaigner and current Minister for Education and Skills Richard Bruton.

Senator Noone, a practicing solicitor, said she was delighted to be added to the ticket.

“I’m looking forward to working hard for the area and campaigning in advance of the election, whenever that may be,” she said.

“Dublin Bay North is a large and increasingly diverse constituency affected by a wide range of issues.

“Certain areas have a growing population of young families - whilst others have an increasing aging population, providing a variety of issues which I intend to tackle head on. These include matters concerning new schools, transport issues and planning strategy.”

Ms Noone said planning issues are always of keen interest in urban constituencies.

“A strategy needs to be examined to produce the optimum balance for locals - especially in light of the imminent court decision on the proposed development in St Anne’s Park,” she added.

Senator Noone, who is Deputy Leader of the Seanad, recently chaired the Oireachtas Committee on the Eight Amendment.

She has a wide interest in health issues including childhood obesity. As Fine Gael’s Children’s spokesperson in the Seanad, she takes a keen interest in protecting children online.

Dublin Bay North was one of the most fiercely contested constituencies in the last general election, comprising a field of a large number of political heavyweights across all parties.

When the last votes had finally been counted, Tommy Broughan, Sean Haughey, Richard Bruton, Finian McGrath and Denise Mitchell claimed the five seats available. Expect another fierce battle next time round.
