THE nominees for the inaugural Northside People Community and Sports Awards 2017 have been announced.

The awards will be held at the Carlton Hotel at Dublin Airport on Thursday, November 30. Broadcaster Joe Duffy will be MC on the night.

Due to the high quality of nominees submitted by our readers, our judges were faced with a near-impossible task in drawing up their shortlists for each of the 10 categories. They are as follows:

SPORT

Club of the Year: Cumann Báire Setanta, Ballymun; Darndale Boxing Club; Fingallians GAA Club. 

Team of the Year: Shelbourne FC Ladies; St Finian’s Under 15 Camogie/Gaelic Football team; Baldoyle United FC.

Young Sports Person of the Year: Eliza Bluma, Aoife Hopkins, Jessica Ziu.

Outstanding Achievement Award: Robyn Byrne, Liam Daly, Dick Fields.

Coach of the Year: Nicholas Duffy, Fionntan MacGibb, Paul Keane.

COMMUNITY

Best School in the community: Pobalscoil Neasáin, Belvedere College; St Michael’s House, Baldoyle.

Volunteer of the Year: John (Sammy) Donnelly, Olive Kelly, Helen Thompson.

Business in the Community: Clodagh Bury, Slim4Life; Laverty’s Pharmacy, Ballymun; Top Oil.

Young Community Person of Year: Stephen James, Dylan Lynch, Stephen Lally.

Community & Neighbourhood Group: Bohemian Foundation; Christine Keegan, Stardust Relatives and Victims’ Committee; Portmarnock Arch Club.

One winner will be selected from each category on the night of the awards. In addition, there will be an overall award for sport and one for community.

We’d like to take this opportunity to wish all our shortlisted nominees the very best of luck for November 30.
