THE Strypes have announced a host of special guests who will be joining them as part of their Spitting Image Tour arriving in Whelan’s later this month.

The Strypes are welcoming Belfast’s Brand New Friend on December 21, Limerick's Powpig for the all-ages matinee show on December 22 and Dublin's Thumper on the December 22 evening show.

The Strypes’ new album ‘Spitting Image’ was built to be played live.

Since it's release this year, The Strypes have played a series of venues across the globe, stopping off for shows at various festivals including the Isle Of Wight in the UK and the Fuji Rock Festival, Japan.

Now, The Strypes arrive in Whelan’s Dublin for three special shows that include the all-ages matinee          show.

Formed by four friends in Cavan, The Strypes have performed at many of the major clubs and festivals of Ireland, England and Europe since 2011.

In April 2012 they released the EP, ‘Young, Gifted & Blue’ that hit number one on the iTunes Blues Chart.

They signed a record deal in December 2012 with Mercury Records (now known as Virgin EMI) and released their debut album, ‘Little Victories’.

Their new album ‘Spitting Image’ has bowled people over with its breadth of styles and keenly observed pop smarts.

While The Strypes still pay diligence to the old R&B influencers that they have always loved and been attached too, they are now fully embracing a new found love for New Wave which has had an equal, if not more influence on their new songs.

Joining the Strypes as special guests on December 21, Northern Irish band Brand New Friend are probably one of the most uplifting prospects on the Belfast scene.

They've got hints of American bands like The Front Bottoms and Modern Baseball and they are, according to Stuart Bailie, on The Huw Stephen's Show, BBC Radio 1, “rather great”.

Upcoming Irish band Powpig will join The Strypes on December 22 for their all-ages show on Friday afternoon.

Thumper will support the Strypes for their evening show later on the same day.

As well as selling out the launch gig for their third EP ‘Pop! Goes The Weasel’ (which was released by Little L Records), 2017 has seen Thumper headline the Friday night of Whelans' Ones To Watch Festival, and appear at numerb five in Golden Plec's 'Plec Picks' for the year.

Now already working on their fourth offering (which is being produced by Girl Band's Dan Fox), and with several festival appearances planned for next summer (including Castlepalooz, Galway Fringe Festival and Electric Picnic), Thumper show no sign of slowing down.
