aherne.jpgWHILE Dublin’s ladies will be disappointed to have lost to Tyrone in the TG4 All-Ireland quarter-final last Saturday week, one of the Metropolitans’ star players did win one award recently.
Sinéad Aherne was named the Lucozade Sport/Irish Independent Player of the Month for July.
Aherne scored six points for Dublin against Laois in the Leinster final to help her team bring home the provincial crown for the first time since 2005.
"It's a great honour to win this award, but it's a reflection of the hard work and spirited performance of the team this year," said Sinéad.
This is the second time the 22-year-old St Sylvester's forward has won the award and her tally against Laois proved crucial as Dublin went on to win by three points.
"The Leinster final was a very important game for us and we'd been looking forward to it all year,” she added.
“It's great to have made such an important contribution towards winning the Leinster title, but there really were so many excellent performances from the whole team on the day."
