Prunty takes gold at Europeans PDF Print E-mail

eame.jpgA NORTHSIDE man has become the first person to take overall gold at the World and European Disabled Waterski Championships.
Eamonn Prunty, who hails from the Dublin 15 area, achieved the feat when he came first at the EAME European Disabled Championships in Italy.
Prunty posted the highest average score of 2,908.89 in each of the Slalom, Tricks and Jumps events to take first position, nearly 250 points ahead of Toon Van Der Ploeg from the Netherlands.
There was further good news for Prunty when he recorded a new European record in the Tricks event on August 22.
He completed the course with a score of 1,389 points, beating the previous record by an amazing 29 points.
Although he only managed a seventh place finish in the Slalom, fourth place in the Tricks and second in the Jump finals, Eamonn still had the highest average score of any athlete competing to finish in first place.
Prunty added his European title to the gold he won at last year’s World Disabled Championship in Townsville, Australia, to become the first man to win both titles.
Speaking at the medal ceremony, Prunty expressed delight at his achievements.
“I couldn’t be happier with how the week has gone,” he said.
“To come here and take home the gold is absolutely out of this world.
“To add a European record to that as well, words can’t describe how happy I’m feeling.”
