DUBLIN 15 sports clubs will benefit from a badly needed cash injection thanks to some National Lottery grants. Over e830,000 in grants will be ploughed into local clubs under the Sports Capital Programme. A large portion of the money will be used to develop pitches and clubhouse facilities. Castleknock Hurling and Football Club was awarded e250,000 in funding, while St Brigid’s will receive a cash boost of e200,000. St Peregrines GAA was granted e185,000 and Blakestown/Mountview Sports Project will benefit from a e95,000 windfall. According to local TD, Leo Vardakar (FG), the money will make a real difference to the clubs and their facilities. “I am particularly pleased with the e185,000 grant which has been made to St Peregrine GAA as this money will be used to develop an area of semi-derelict land adjacent to the club which is in the ownership of the council,” he said. “When I was a member of the council, I played the key role in ensuring that this land was given over to St Peregrine’s under licence from the council. “To date, progress in making the land available for use by the club has been slow. This grant will allow us to get the work started.” |
