hamilton.jpgKART racing star Alex Hamilton, from Foxrock, scooped another of Ireland’s big titles recently when he won the Irish O Plate event.
The 11-year-old St Brigid’s Boys’ National School pupil is building a fine reputation in the increasingly competitive Cadets class.
The two-day O Plate meeting in Cork was one of the toughest yet for Alex, as not only was he up against top drivers from Southern Ireland, but he also had to face fierce competition from north of the border.
Hamilton though is also competing at British Championship level, and really absorbs the pressure and doesn’t let it get to him.
He has been making waves all year after winning the All-Ireland Championships just over a month ago and the Ulster Championships at Easter at Nutts Corner.
August has been a busy month for the South Dubliner and he is now looking forward to taking part in the Ulster Karting Club’s biggest meeting of the year, the Irish Kart Grand Prix, from August 22 to 24.
The Irish GP is traditionally seen as the toughest race in the country and usually attracts a bumper entry.
After winning the O Plate competition, Alex described his year so far as “awesome”.
“If I could take the GP meeting at Nutts Corner that would really crown the year off for me,” he told Dublin People Sport.
“I don’t think anyone has won all four big Irish meetings in a season and I know the locals up there will be hard to beat.
“I’m very lucky though to have great support from Mum, Dad and Patina Lighting, as well as my school so with a bit of luck I will add some more silverware to the trophy cabinet.”
