A WEST Dublin GAA Club is building a reputation for producing good golfers as well as footballers after winning the provincial round of a national golf competition. St Brigid’s GAA Club in Blanchardstown made history when they became the first ever club to win three provincial titles in a row in the FBD All-Ireland GAA Golf Challenge. Led by former Dublin corner back, Martin Cahill, and former Dublin hurler, Sean Duignan, St Brigid’s held their resolve to ensure their place in the All-Ireland final, which will take place at the exclusive Faithlegg Hotel and Golf Club in September. Duignan (15) teamed up with Cian O’Mahony (8) to score 41 points while Cahill and Domhnaill O’Mahony finished up with 42 points. Their combined total of 83 points meant St Brigid’s completed the course at Royal Tara just one point ahead of second placed St Rynagh’s, from Offaly. St Brigid’s and St Rynagh’s were the first two teams out on the day and it proved the difference, as the morning’s favourable weather conditions enabled them to take an early advantage. St Brigid’s historic victory means they will meet Roscommon GAA Club of New York, Waterford’s Lismore and Cavan Gaels in the All-Ireland final decider next month. |
