| GAA club given changing facilities boost |

 A NORTHSIDE GAA club that has no changing facilities has been given a boost by their local authority.A spokeswoman for Fingal County Council confirmed to Northside People that its parks department has permitted Na Dubh Gall Club in Baldoyle to use part of the site at Seagrange Park to store changing cabins, but only on a “temporary” basis. Last month, Northside People highlighted the club’s difficulties including the fact that young players have to get changed in a public park. Peter Grassick, juvenile chairman at Na Dubh Ghall, said he was delighted to hear that the council was willing to let them use this piece of land. “We had large containers donated to the club before but unfortunately had no place to store them, so we had to get changed in the park,” Mr Grassick stated. “Now that we have access to the council’s depot, we will be able to get changed in private and the kids will be able to use toilets if they want to. “This is definitely a step in the right direction for the area.” According to Mr Grassick, local residents were having problems with anti-social behaviour in the area around the Brickfields site. “Now that we will be up there every night, people won’t have to worry when they walk through the park,” he stated. “We know the local kids and get along with them, so I don’t think vandalism will be a big problem either.” Na Dubh Ghall would like to thank the council’s parks department for their support. “They have been looking after the team very well in recent months,” Mr Grassick added. “They have been doing a great job in Seagrange Park in recent months, planting trees and keeping everything tidy. “It’s brilliant news and we are delighted to finally have a space of our own.” Na Dubh Ghall GAA Club has around 800 members and 23 teams. The council’s goodwill gesture is timely, given that the popular club will soon host its summer camp at Seagrange Park with over 150 children expected to articipate. Local community activists have also welcomed the council’s gesture. Cian O’Callaghan, Labour’s candidate in the Howth ward for next year’s local elections, said the council’s decision was a very welcome step. “It shows that the council is now listening to the concerns of local residents in relation to Brickfields and acting on them,” Mr O’Callaghan stated. “I hope that the provision of permanent club facilities and changing rooms for Na Dubh Ghall will now progress. Brian Greene, a Socialist Party representative in the area, said this was an excellent gain for the community. “It’s great to see one of Dublin's fastest growing clubs finally get facilities so close to where it holds its training sessions," stated Mr Greene. |
