Post Office robbery being investigated PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 13 August 2008
GARDAI in Raheny are continuing to investigate an armed robbery that took place on the Northside last week.
On Tuesday, August 5, at approximately 11.40am,  two men entered Kilbarrack Post Office and demanded money.
Gardai have confirmed that one man was armed with what is believed to be a handgun while the other had a knife and a hammer.
A spokesman for the Garda Press Office said there were two members of staff and two customers in the post office at the time.
“There were no shots fired and no persons were injured,” the spokesman stated.
“The culprits got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and made their getaway in a 96 D registered Nissan 100x, which was located a short time later abandoned on Beechbrook Grove.”
The investigation is ongoing and gardai are asking for anyone with information in relation to the incident to contact Raheny Garda Station on 6664300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
This latest incident follows an attempted armed raid on a branch of the Bank of Ireland at Northern Cross on the Malahide Road (July 22) and an armed robbery at Bayside Shopping Centre (July 17).
Dublin North East TD Terence Flanagan (FG) said it was fortunate that nobody was injured in this latest raid.
''The increasing trend towards armed raids in the area is very worrying,” stated Cllr Flanagan.
“The message to the Minister for Justice must go out loud and clear that if you do the crime, you do the time.
“For too long now in this country sentencing terms have been too lenient and as a result there are no deterrents in place for criminals.
“Mandatory sentencing must now be brought in for repeat offenders and those who engage in armed robberies.”
