Lisbon poster saga drags on

A ‘ROGUE’ poster belonging to MEP Eoin Ryan and urging people to vote Yes to the Lisbon Treaty is still hanging from a pole in Raheny after it was highlighted by Northside People.
Two weeks later, not only is the poster still hanging from the same spot, but now another one of the same Fianna Fáil politician has reared its head not too far away.
The first poster we spotted was found hanging on a pole at the junction of Howth Road and Station Road and was still at this location at the time of going to press.
The second poster is hanging from a pole at the junction of Malahide Road and Killester Avenue, although this one is a lot more hidden away.
The Lisbon Treaty took place eight weeks ago and under Dublin City Council bye-laws, the Fianna Fáil party may be subject to littering fines.
While the latest poster is partially covered by the branches of a tree and may have been overlooked when posters were being removed, the one initially found is in a very public area and is easily seen when coming up the street.
Dublin City Council’s bye-laws strictly outline that posters must be removed within seven days of an election or else parties will face fines under the Litter Pollution Act.
However, when contacted by Northside People last week, a spokesperson for the local authority said they would give Fianna Fáil another day to remove it.
“It may have just been one that got away by mistake,” a spokesperson told Northside People.
“If it is still there tomorrow our litter team will have to deal with it.”
Last Friday, a spokesperson for Fianna Fáil was adamant that the posters would be removed immediately but declined to comment on the reason for the mix up.
Eoin Ryan’s office was unavailable for comment on the matter at the time of going to press.
