vintage.jpgThe Irish Veteran and Vintage Car Club (IVVCC) has announced details of this year’s Powerscourt Estate Picnic Run that will take place in Enniskerry, Co Wicklow on Sunday, August 17.
It is anticipated that up to 160 cars will once again converge on Powerscourt Estate from the membership of the IVVCC and affiliated clubs.
These will include antique, veteran, vintage, classic and open tourer vehicles.
This year’s run will start from the historic Airfield House, Upper Kilmacud Road in Dundrum which was home to the famous Overend family.
This magnificent property also boasts a private car museum containing the family’s prized vintage collection.
The first car will depart at 1.30pm and will travel at a leisurely pace through the Wicklow Hills arriving at Powerscourt Estate at approximately 2pm. Cars will be lined up in the Araucaria (Monkey Puzzle Avenue) until 5pm.
“The preservation of our heritage and history is a very worthy cause,” said John Fitzgerald, the chairman of the Powerscourt Run. “In the course of the motorcar’s evolution, many elegant and sophisticated cars have been produced and society owes a great debt to the enthusiasts who go to such trouble and expense to preserve these links with the past.”
Apart from obtaining personal satisfaction, the Powerscourt Run offers the general public a rare opportunity to enjoy a special sort of motoring in the splendour of one of Europe’s greatest gardens.
