Statue shows up following theft

RESIDENTS of Ferrycarrig Road, Coolock, were shocked last week to find that a statue of the Virgin Mary had been stolen from a local shrine.
However, in what may have been an act of divine intervention or a miraculous case of a moving statue, it was later found in a garden in the area.
The statue has been a well-known feature on Ferrycarrig Road since it was erected in 1989 and residents were stunned to wake up last Wednesday morning (July 30) to find it had been removed.
According to Artane ward councillor, Larry O’Toole (SF), the statue is now safe in a local house and the community will be deciding if it should be put back in its original spot.
“Ferrycarrig Road residents are overjoyed following the recovery of the statue of Our Lady, which had been stolen overnight,” Cllr O’Toole told Northside People.
“Apparently the statue, which went missing during Tuesday night (July 29), has been recovered by gardaí and returned to the neighbourhood.

“The local residents who subscribed to and maintained the statue since its erection in 1989 will now decide on whether to re-erect the statue on its original site.”
Dublin North East Senator Martin Brady (FF) said he was outraged that the statue had been stolen.
"I cannot understand how anyone would steal the precious statue,” he stated.
“It has been around for years, and it has been a great source of peace and prayer for the local community.
"I know of many residents who would visit the statue regularly and it was always a point of call after the local children made their communions and confirmations.”
As reported in Northside People recently, Dublin City Council had agreed to refurbish the statue by re-painting it, along with the surrounding railings and re-surfacing the area inside with flower containers.
Senator Brady added: "We had all been looking forward to seeing the statue back to its original condition and now we have been left in shock over recent events.
“The statue of Our Lady has become a piece of history in the area that we certainly don't want to lose.”
