AN Bord Pleanala is to grant an oral hearing into the proposed redevelopment of Northside Shopping Centre, Coolock. The move follows objections from some residents in the local community to N1 Property’s plans, which include a high-rise, high-density 1,340-unit redevelopment of Northside Shopping Centre, the Atlantic site and Cromcastle Court and its environs. Dublin City Council granted planning permission for the development, but a number of concerns have been raised locally. The independent hearing will now take submissions from residents who are objecting to the proposal. Dublin North East, Tommy Broughan (Lab) has welcomed An Bord Pleanala’s decision to grant an oral hearing. Deputy Broughan feels that the proposal in its current form is unsustainable and has serious flaws that would greatly diminish the residential amenity of his constituents who live near Northside Shopping Centre. “The massive high density of the proposal with 1,340 apartment units and duplexes plus 76,000 square metres of retail space is completely unacceptable,” he said. “The high-rise nature of the plan, including proposals for four, five, six and seven-storey monolithic blocks in Phase 1, will destroy the current pleasant, low rise residential environment.” Deputy Broughan said he intends to make a comprehensive presentation at the hearing and will insist that the proposed redevelopment in its current form be rejected. “This proposed redevelopment will have a profound effect on my constituents in Riverside, Bonnybrook, Clonshaugh, Priorswood and Darndale estates and my former constituents in Kilmore, Woodville, Lorcan and Artane.” |
