IRELAND’S ‘Elvis Presley’ - Kevin Doyle - along with his band ‘The Way It Was Orchestra’ spent six months rehearsing the stage production of ‘The Elvis Presley Story’ before approaching any theatre to stage the show.“We wanted it to be just right,” says Kevin. “A lot of time, effort and practise went into studying Elvis’ timing, mannerisms and phrasing. We believe we now have one of the best Elvis tribute shows around.” The new production at The Olympia Theatre has already seen sell out houses at the Tivoli Theatre and the National Concert Hall that have always left the audience on their feet wanting more. Kevin and the group have been widely praised for their authenticity. They have played with many of Elvis’ backing musicians including the Jordanaires vocal group, the famous TCB band and the King’s long time friend, Charlie Hodge. “It’s been an absolute pleasure to have been on stage with these brilliant musicians,” enthuses Kevin. “They had some fascinating stories to relate about Elvis, I can tell you “Although Elvis ran into trouble towards the latter part of his life I believe he was a great character, a real rags to riches story that people can identify with and that’s why they all love him so much.” In a new addition to the show the Graceland Gospel Choir will add an extra vocal depth to the sound and recall the music that Elvis himself loved to play. All Elvis’ major hits will feature in the Olympia show – from early recordings through to his ‘comeback’ TV special in 1968 and the towering live performances of the 1970s. In all, there will be 20 musicians on stage, faithfully recreating the sounds that people know and love from every era in the King’s career. Stand-out numbers include ‘That’s All Right’, ‘Heartbreak Hotel’, ‘Love Me Tender’, ‘It’s Now Or Never’, ‘An American Trilogy’ and of course, ‘Suspicious Minds’. Kevin admits to having a special love of ‘Suspicious Minds’. “It’s just a wonderfully powerful song to perform on stage,” he reveals. “I also really love a lot of the early 1950s gospel stuff.” The show also features film footage and special guest voiceovers to give audiences a rare look into Elvis’ life through sound, image and live performances. The Elvis Presley Story runs at The Olympia Theatre from September 25 to 27. Tickets are priced e25 and e30 and are on sale now from Ticketmaster outlets. |
