natalie.jpgLOCAL singing sensation Natalie Nolan is determined to get back on song after a throat infection blew her chance of winning an all-Ireland karaoke title.
Last May Natalie was crowned ‘Karaoke Queen’ at the Dublin final of the Irish Karaoke Championships in Break for the Border with her signature song ‘I will always love you’ by Whitney Houston.
The 20-year-old beauty from Ballymun displayed star qualities at the event, with judges saying she ‘raised hair’ with her powerful voice.
When announced as the winner a shocked Natalie took almost five minutes to leave her seat to collect her trophy.
“I couldn’t believe it, there was so many amazing singers there that night, I was ecstatic, I cried,” she said.
But disappointment lay ahead for Natalie when her attempt at the all Ireland final at The Red Cow Inn last month failed due to a throat infection.
Even though she was missing out on the chance to travel abroad and sign a recording contract, Natalie took the setback in her stride.
“Someone else obviously needed it more than me that night, there is always next year,” she said.
Sponsored by Paddy Power bookmakers, the final was watched by Louis Walsh and hairdressing apprentice Natalie had been one of the favourites to win on the night.
But she’s determined to hit the right note and wants to pursue a singing career when she completes her apprenticeship.
“I want to have something to fall back on if it doesn’t work out,” she said.
Natalie began singing in school, welcoming morning assembly with her voice.
When she started voice coaching to learn how not to strain her voice, her coach told her he didn’t want to take her money as she was “naturally good”.
Natalie has won various prizes and trophies for singing and gets tormented to sing when she enters her local pub.
“I don’t even put my name forward, I just get called,” she laughed.
She has sung duets with Christie Moore, and Christie Dignam from Aslan at a Finglas festival.
“I just love to sing. Once I get the microphone, I wont stop, I’d sing all night, I love the fun.”
Three years ago, Natalie came second in a karaoke competition in The Fingal Pub in Finglas after which she was offered a trip to the UK to audition for a girl band.
One of the judges was moved to tears when she sang but Natalie declined the offer, preferring instead to pursue a solo singing career here at home.
With her family giving full support, and professionals keeping a keen eye on her, Natalie seems set for a bring future in singing.
