hamilton.jpgA SOUTH Dublin boy has hit the headlines again in his chosen sport.
Alex Hamilton (11), from Foxrock, recently scooped one of Ireland’s most prestigious titles in motorsport, the All-Ireland Karting Championships in the Cadets class.
The St Brigid’s Boys’ National School student has been making waves all year after winning the Ulster Championships at Easter.
This big win at Tynagh in Galway proves that Alex’s efforts in taking on British championship meetings is also paying off with some big leaps in performance.
With a past karting champion and namesake, Lewis Hamilton, to look up to, young Alex has plenty of motivation and what makes this win so special is that it is only his first full year in the sport.
The two-day event at Tynagh was a tough affair with two heats taking place on the opening day.  Alex won his first heat and came second in the second heat, which really set him up for the following day.
After another early win to add to his momentum, Alex then went on to win the Pre-Final and the Finals.
Alex finished with 1.6 seconds to spare and also set the fastest lap of 55 seconds in the process.
Competition was tough throughout though, as the South Dubliner was up against two of the top Northern drivers, Scott Finlay, who is leading the Northern Ireland championship, and his main challenger, Jason Dickson.
In the end though, they could not match the pace set by Alex and if he gets the chance to take on the Irish Grand Prix at Nutts Corner Motorsports Centre in August, then a hat-trick of triumphs could be a possibility.
Also, with more trips across to Scotland and England planned, it will undoubtedly be a hot summer of competition for the Patina lighting backed driver.
