Bohs and DCU unveil exciting plans

A PROMINENT eircom League of Ireland club and a Dublin university have announced details of an exciting new deal that will benefit both parties.
Under terms of the deal, all of Bohemian Football Club’s underage teams will train at Dublin City University’s (DCU) world-class facilities.
DCU will also sponsor the jerseys of all the underage Bohemians teams.
Bohs and DCU have signed a new five-year deal, having worked closely for the past two and a half years.
Speaking at a joint press conference in DCU, youth director Robbie Loughlin said: “This is a historic day for our club.
“We now have a home for all of our teams that is second to none.
“The club is now committed to establishing itself as a leader in youth development.”
Mr Loughlin has urged all parents/players to come down and have a look at what they are trying to create.
“To put it simply, we are putting in place a structure that is a long term commitment by the club to provide players with opportunities that they won’t get at any schoolboy club or eircom League club,” he stated.
“This is the first time that the entire underage division has been able to locate to a single venue. “The youngest underage sides will also play within the confines of the campus while the remaining teams will continue to play at Albert College which is situated beside the university on Ballymun Road.”
All teams will have access to the same excellent facilities that have been made available to the senior side.
The two parties have also agreed a new initiative that will enable Bohemian FC to offer scholarships at DCU to its players at under-20 level.
DCU will benefit from this arrangement, as scholarship students will qualify to represent the college in the Collingwood Cup competition.
The scholarships system will commence in October when the new academic year begins. It is Bohs’ aim to have a maximum of three players on scholarship this year.
The initiative will see all the underage teams wearing the same Umbro kit as that worn by the seniors. The kit will feature the DCU logo on the front of the jersey.
As part of the agreement, Bohemians players will benefit from the input of dedicated sports scientists from DCU to assist its programmes at all age levels.
There will be organised workshops aimed to educate the club’s players on issues such as proper nutrition and personal development.
