THE advent of tribute acts possibly began with Elvis impersonators. However, most tribute acts are groups. A tribute band rarely includes any members of the original band whose music is being honoured, although guest appearances do occur. For example, former Bruce Springsteen drummer, Vini Lopez, often plays sets with Springsteen tribute band, the E Street Shuffle. In Britain, a tribute act circuit has grown up around the country while tribute bands regularly tour various venues in Ireland. Dublin audiences will have the opportunity to see three of the better tribute bands during the summer at The Academy venue on Middle Abbey Street. Rattle And Hum, who play the music of U2, will perform on July 18, Ledd Zepp, who honour Led Zeppelin, will play on August 15 and The Stone Roses Experience, a tribute to the Stone Roses appears on September 26. Rattle and Hum are from Dublin, huge U2 fans and excellent musicians. The band not only sounds exactly like U2, but they have in their front man, a singer that bears an uncanny resemblance to Bono, both vocally and visually. Rattle And Hum have become so popular in their tribute to U2 that they have toured their show in Europe and the USA. From U2’s first album, ‘Boy’, right up to ‘How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb’, Rattle and Hum cover every era from the band’s catalogue. Witnessing a Rattle and Hum concert is reckoned to be the closest thing to U2 that you are ever going to see and you get the added bonus of seeing a U2 show in a smaller venue. Ledd Zepp is a band paying homage to one of the greatest rock bands ever, Led Zeppelin. They play in the style of the great band live, breaking off into un-chartered jam sections that thunder along with unbelievable energy before crashing back into the song. The band plays with an energy and discipline that mirrors Led Zeppelin in their heyday in the 70s. While Ledd Zepp can be relied upon to come up with most of the legendary band’s classics like ‘Rock n’ Roll’ and ‘Stairway To Heaven’, they also feature some of the most challenging and diverse Led Zeppelin material in their blistering set. Great value for money and true Zeppelin fans will love the attention to detail. The Stone Roses Experience is the ultimate Stone Roses tribute act. They are widely regarded as the most accurate tribute to the great Manchester band and focus on bringing the authentic live sound of the Roses to audiences who never had the pleasure of seeing the original band. The band uses the original instruments as closely as possible to tweak that all-important desired classic Roses tone. Always very popular with Dublin audiences and with sellout shows all over the UK and Ireland, The Stone Roses Experience has shown that the popularity of the Stone Roses music is still as fresh today as it was back in the late 80s. For the complete Stone Roses Experience this is the show to catch on September 26. |
