mcmanus.jpgCELTIC Athletic Club, from the Navan Road, had nine athletes in action at the All-Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships in Tullamore, County Offaly, and they emerged with great credit following some terrific performances.
Star of the day was Catherine McManus, who was running for St Dominic’s College, Cabra, in the 80-metre hurdles for Intermediate Girls where she won the gold medal.
Tekea Gebrezgi, also running for St Dominic’s, won a silver medal in the senior 1500-metres in a new personal best time of four minutes and 41 seconds. Clare Brennan, representing Coolmine Community School, also ran a personal best time to come second in the Junior 1500-metres.
Steffi Creaner, running for Loreto College, St Stephen’s Green, came third in the Inter 100-metres and led her teammates to relay gold in the Senior event.
Susan McManus came third in the Senior girls’ 400-metres hurdles in what was her last race for St Dominic’s, despite a heavy fall at the last hurdle. Other athletes in action who didn’t get in on the medals this time were Heather Lougheed (Junior 1500-metres), Anne-Marie Meenagh (Junior high-jump), Siobhan McGinley (Junior 800-metres) and Niamh Doyle (inter 1500-metres).
