Two students of a Castleknock film school will travel to Asia next month to take part in the Seoul Film Festival.
Teenagers Laura Waters and Kevin Corry will compete against dozens of other international entries at the festival, which will be held in South Korea in mid July.
Their short films – ‘Stalker’ and ‘Darkside of the Night’ were produced during a local ‘make a movie’ course at the Digital Film School in Castleknock.
Both films reached the final of the Fresh Film Festival in Limerick where they were among seven entries short listed for the upcoming trip to South Korea.
Laura, a 15-year-old student from Rathfarnham, wrote, directed and starred in Stalker.
“Making the movie was one of the best experiences in my life,” she told Northside People.
“I really enjoyed every part of the process and I’m thrilled that my suspense movie has got this far.”
She added: “I’m really looking forward to meeting filmmakers from other countries and seeing all the different kinds of short films.”
Seventeen-year-old Kevin, who attended the school’s city centre branch, explained how he honed in on his cinematography skills during the summer camp.
“I definitely know that I want to study film in college and this trip to Korea will be a great opportunity for me,” he enthused.
“I really enjoyed the camera aspect of filming and hope that someday I will be involved in the cinematography of films or documentaries.”
