The Dundrum Arts and Cultural Festival will celebrate 25 years of providing summer entertainment for the Dundrum area when they commence their annual event later this month.
The festival has grown from a modest beginning to become a major event in Dundrum. For its Silver Jubilee year it will showcase a theme of international folk dance while also celebrating the European Year of Culture.
It gets underway on Sunday, June 22 with a family day in the beautiful setting of Airfield House with plenty of diverse entertainment to suit everyone’s tastes.
The celebration will also feature the ever-popular Garda Band who will provide an afternoon of entertainment in the town centre.
The highlights of past festivals have included a children’s art competition, which involves all the schools in the area and a village day which provides a variety of events to suit all interests.
Sporting events include Active Age bowling, the ever-popular children’s football competition and the renowned Stephen Roche Grand Prix cycling classic, which attracts top Irish cyclists.
Dance groups from Germany, Italy and Poland will attend, bringing great colour and a vivid taste of their own unique cultures to Dundrum.
The Main Street of the town will be closed between 1 pm and 5.30pm on June 28 and 29 to facilitate the wide programme of fantastic entertainment on offer.
People will also have the opportunity to learn more about the history of Dundrum during the Heritage Walk with John Lennon at 7.30pm on Wednesday, June 25.
In addition, a magnificent fireworks display will also take place and the festival will also see the highly attended French Market, which on their last visit brought wonderful colour to Dundrum. Almost all events are free of charge.
