AFTER years of campaigning for new premises, a Northside Irish speaking school was finally able to open the doors of a brand new building recently.
Gaelscoil Cholmcille’s battle for a new school had been well documented in Northside People  over the last few years, but all that was forgotten when the new premises finally opened on Coolock Lane.
The school is located beside the Astro Park Leisure facility and provides space and facilities for pupils, which were not possible at the previous site.
Gaelscoil Cholmcille’s principal, board of management and parents expressed great satisfaction after finally realising their dream of being able to move the pupils into a safe and suitable premises.
For the past 12 years Gaelscoil Cholmcille has been using rented accommodation at St Kevin’s Boys’ Football Club.
A Gaelscoil Cholmcille spokesperson expressed gratitude to the club for allowing the school to operate from St Kevin’s for so long.
School principal Sandra Ní Gharbháin stated: “We would like to thank all the parents who have supported the school over the years.
“We would also like to thank sincerely all the politicians, Dublin city councillors, and members of the media who have highlighted our case and campaigned for us, and therefore have played a part in what is a historic new beginning for Gaelscoil Cholmcille.”
