A NINE-year-old North Dublin schoolboy recently became one of the youngest people in Ireland to receive a First Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo.Austin MacNamara, a member of Celtic Taekwondo Club in Baldoyle, received the honour in front of a number of highly respected black belts from around the world. Austin’s achievement was even more special in that he was awarded his belt in the company of a 9th Dan from Korea, the home of Taekwondo. The black belt was the culmination of years of hard work put in by Austin, who has been taking part in Taekwondo since he was four-years-old. His mother Raychael told Dublin People Sport she was immensely proud of her son’s achievement. “Austin has won a number of trophies and has been selected to represent Leinster, but receiving his black belt at such a young age in front of a highly respected Dan from Korea was very special,” she said. “Austin has put a lot of time and effort into his Taekwondo and now that he has reached black belt level, his competitive levels will become even more serious. “It’s great for him and his instructor, Jason Martin, that he has come this far and we are sure he can go on to achieve much more.” |
