DUBLIN’S North East Inner City will be bouncing to the sounds and sights of the unique ‘Urban Noise’ Hip Hop festival running in the area this week.
Over 130 young people from East Wall, North Wall, Sean MacDermott Street, North Strand and Ballybough have been busy taking part in extensive workshops to get ready for the festival’s showcase event in the National College of Ireland (NCI) this Thursday (May 28).
Organised by Dublin’s North East Inner City (NEIC) Youth Network with support from the local Fire Station Artists’ Studios, the festival aims to give young people from the local area the opportunity to engage in an exciting and quality art experience in art forms relevant to their lives.
Over the last four years the festival has focused on the four art forms of Hip Hop culture – Graffiti art, Rap, DJ’ing and Dance.
However, this year the festival organisers have introduced circus skills performance into what they hope will be an even bigger and more ambitious festival.
The final performance will bring participants together with their peers and the local community to celebrate and showcase their achievements.
The NCI has commissioned graffiti artist Tom McDonald and the young people involved to create a large, outdoor graffiti/mural artwork which will be unveiled at the showcase.
Festival-goers will also enjoy live graffiti art displays during the showcase.
