Locals urged to help develop new drug plan PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 22 May 2008
THE Ballymun Local Drugs Task Force is calling on Northsiders to help them develop a long term strategic plan to tackle drug use.
Two consultation meetings will be held next week to give the local community an opportunity to air their concerns and suggest action to deal with the scourge of drugs in the area.
Similar meetings are being held all around the country as part of a Government drive to develop a strategic drug plan for the next six years.
Since it was set up 11 years ago, the Ballymun Local Drugs Task Force has achieved a more co-ordinated approach to local drug problems with the help of many different agencies.
There has been a notable improvement in the number of services and facilities available to local drug users.
Additional educational and recreation resources have also been ploughed into the area to support and help youths to lead a drug-free life.
According to a spokesperson for the drugs task force, Ballymun has a strong tradition of community involvement in responding to drugs issues.
“This ownership of responsibility is an essential element of a community approach to drug use and needs to be further supported and developed,” it was stated.
The first meeting will be held in the Civic Offices on Monday May 26 at 7pm and the second takes place the following day (Tuesday, May 27) in the Reco Youth Centre, Sillogue Road at 10 am.
For further information contact the Ballymun Local Drugs Task Force which is located in the Axis Centre on 8832142.
