THERE was a massive outpouring of grief at the funeral of a popular motorcycle rider in north county Dublin last Wednesday (May 7). Talented Martin Finnegan, from Lusk, tragically died after he crashed his bike during a race in Armagh the previous weekend. The top road race star, whose achievements included a famous win at the Manx Grand Prix, was laid to rest amid sad and tearful scenes at St Macullin’s Church and Graveyard. Martin’s racing career had been one of immense success and at just 29-years-of-age he was regarded as one of the best road racers in Ireland. The father-of-one was on the second lap of the Supersport 600cc race at the Tandragee 100 meeting when he crashed off the circuit. His death sent shockwaves through the world of motorcycle racing where he was a hugely popular figure. Martin is survived by his wife Brenda, his daughter Rachel, parents Jim and Margaret and siblings Elizabeth, Ger, James, Paul, Sean and Peter. |
