FETE: St Mary’s Church Howth is holding its Summer Fete this Saturday, May 17, from 12 noon to 4pm. The fete is being held in the church grounds beside the gates of Howth Castle. All the usual stalls will be included with books, CDs, cakes and plants to name but a few. St George’s Brass Band will provide musical entertainment. This is the largest single fundraiser that the parish runs annually.

CLEAN-UP: Now that the good weather has arrived, organisers of the regular Dollymount Beach Clean-up need your help more than ever. Give a hand to keep this lovely amenity tidy. The group meets this Saturday, May 17, at 11am at the entry to the Strand from Bull Wall.

MEETING: Sutton/Baldoyle U3A is calling all over 55-year-olds. U3A is university of the third age. It’s an educational self-help organisation drawing on the wealth of knowledge and experience of its members to set up study groups, common interest groups, and to organise recreational activities and trips. It is a great place to meet likeminded people, enjoy good company and can be a time of creative activity and fulfilment. EXHIBITION: Portmarnock Art Group is holding its annual art exhibition at the Malahide Tennis Club railings from May 31 to June 2 (11am to 6pm weather permitting). Approximately 50 artists from Fingal area will be participating in this event.

FUSCHIA: The Irish Fuchsia Society is holding a talk, ‘Trendy Plants – What’s New for This Year’, by Maeve Sheehan, at St Peter’s Senior College, Collins Avenue, Killester, on Thursday, May 15, at 8pm. All are welcome.

ICA: The Irish Countrywomen’s Association (ICA) Dublin Federation Howth Guild will host an arts and crafts exhibition on Saturday, May 24, at St Mary’s Church Hall at 2.30pm. INDIA WALK: The Cystic Fibrosis Annual International Walk will take place from September 27 to October 8 this year. Willing participants are needed. HOSPITAL PLAY: Play Well is looking for volunteers for their hospital play services. The volunteers provide play activities for children in hospitals around the city. If you can give two or three hours once a week (either morning or afternoon - Monday to Friday) you can make a difference to ill children. Volunteers must be 18 years or over. INDONESIA WALK: The Irish Heart Foundation is challenging eager adventurers to sign up for their 2008 Overseas Sponsored Walk to the stunning Indonesian island of Sumatra. The walk, which takes place from October 10 to 23, promises to be a trip of a lifetime. Money raised is used to fund vital research, heart health programmes, CPR training, a national patient helpline and support advocacy for better patient services. LECTURE: The next lecture in the Aware Monthly Lecture Series takes place on Wednesday, May 14 in the Swift Centre, St Patrick's Hospital, James Street, Dublin 8 at 7.30pm. The speaker, Jim Cosgrove, music therapist, will look at music therapy as a therapeutic option for depression.

CYCLING: Planning for Pedals: A talk by Dr John Parkin will take place in the Emmet Theatre, Arts Building, Trinity College on Thursday, May 15 at 8pm. The talk will cover policies to promote cycling and factors affecting bicycle use, based on a UK study for commuting. The talk will be introduced by the Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey. This is organised by the Dublin Cycling Campaign, a voluntary body working to make Dublin a bicycle friendly city (www.dublincycling.ie). All welcome. Free of charge.

GUIDES: The Catholic Guides of Ireland 4th Annual Buion Mhuire Reunion will take place on Sunday, May 25 at Harrington Street between 3pm – 5pm.
