esker.jpgON Sunday, May 25, a South Dublin schoolboys’ team will bid for a league and cup double.
Having wrapped up the Under 10D title with a remarkable 20 wins from 20 league games, Esker Celtic will be hoping to complete a perfect campaign with victory over Marino in the Kavanagh Cup Final.
On April 30, Esker took on Knocklyon at Hermitage Park in their penultimate league game of the season.
Conor Cooper opened the scoring for the home side after three minutes and Andy Quinn doubled the lead shortly after when he availed of a good pass from Harry Larkin.
Esker maintained the early pressure and killed the game off as a contest in the 23rd minute with a third goal.
Carl Smith caught the Knocklyon defence off guard and finished well with a shot into the top corner.
Knocklyon were more aggressive in the second half but were unable to get back into the game due to some very good play from Esker ‘keeper Nevan Jio and timely tackling by Padraig Sculley.
Jacob Breaw completed a 4-0 triumph with a goal in the 43rd minute.
On May 4, the Lucan outfit went for their 20th victory and recorded it with ease following an 11-2 win over Park Celtic, a match that was a microcosm of the team’s prolific season.
Esker raced into a 7-1 interval lead and, despite making a number of changes for the second half, remained dominant.
Jacob Breaw helped himself to a hat-trick, while Conor Cooper and James Linehan added a brace each. Carl Smith, Nevan Jio and Richard Pascua were also on target for Esker, with one of the goals coming as a result of a Park og.
If this match is any indication of their intent and motivation, May 25 could be a historic day for this Esker squad.
