Gulliver takes a rest in Docklands

A GIANT sand sculpture of Jonathon Swift’s character, Lemeul Gulliver, is currently on view at the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) to celebrate this year’s One City, One Book festival.
The chosen book for this year’s event is Gulliver’s Travels.
To celebrate Gulliver's visit to Dublin, sculptors Duthain Dealbh began carving in sand outside the chq building at the IFSC on April 2.
Following two weeks of hard graft, the giant Gulliver, four metres in height, can be seen resting under the arch on George’s Dock.
Inside the chq building, a wall of sand has been sculpted to represent four different chapters of the novel.
The sculpture will be on view outside the chq building until the end of April and families are being encouraged to come and see it free of charge.
The indoor sculptures can be viewed inside the chq building from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm on Saturday, and 12pm to 6pm on Sunday.

One City, One Book is a project designed to encourage everyone in the city to read the same book during the month of April each year in a bid to promote reading and highlight our great literary heritage.
Jonathon Swift was chosen because of his close ties with the city. He was educated at Trinity College before going on to become Dean of St Patrick’s Cathedral in Christchurch.
To celebrate Gulliver's visit to Dublin, almost 20 events and exhibitions are being held throughout the capital for both adults and children.
City Hall will play host to Eamon Morrissey's acclaimed one-man show, Gulliver's Dublin, which will run for four nights.
Other events taking place include adult and children's film screenings at the Irish Film Institute, children's interactive theatrical workshops in Dublin City Libraries, academic talks on Swift and Dublin, as well as exhibitions.
The event is a Dublin City Council initiative, led by Dublin City Libraries and supported by Dublin Docklands Development Authority, Vintage Classics and The Sunday Tribune.
