green.jpgGreen Machines, Ireland's leading supplier of zero emission electric vehicles since 2001, have launched the Mega City electric car.
Expertly designed the vehicle provides a practical and aesthetically pleasing answer to emission free journeys in urban centres.
Robert Nolan, Managing Director, Green Machines stated: “The Mega City is a welcome addition to our expanding fleet. For the first time the Irish consumer will have a choice in the market place. This car feels much more like a mainstream offering from a mass manufacturer which not only looks well from the outside but it feels like a proper car on the inside as well.”
The Mega City is produced by the French Manufacture Axiam - Mega Group that have production volumes in excess of 15,000 cars per year making it one of Europe's leading suppliers of these types of vehicles.
The vehicle is larger, wider and more ‘car’-like in appearance and operation than its competition. The Mega City is built with an aluminum chassis and occupant safety cell, and is clad in impact-resistant polycarbonate panels. The manufacturer says this body is 100 per cent recyclable. As an all-electric car it produces zero emissions at the point of use and has a top speed of 64kph with a range of 80 kilometers. Considering that the average urban commute is under 20kilometers a day this is more than enough.

Robert Nolan added: “Today's environmentally conscious consumer now has the opportunity to purchase a vehicle that, as a second car, can meet all their urban commuting requirements. Not only does it look well but it will cost approximately e300 to run a year if fully charged every evening based on a night saver rate.”
This is on average about 50 times cheaper than the fuel costs of similarly sized petrol cars. The Mega City has no exhaust and zero emissions when driven. Even if you account the CO2 produced in supplying the electricity to the mains socket to charge the car, the Mega City still has lower emissions than any combustion engine. With renewable energy and carbon offsetting we hope that this would be zero in the near future.
The car comes standard in either a two or four seat configuration with exterior temperature gauge with black ice alert, anti-theft security, central remote locking, automatic illuminating hazard lights in sudden deceleration, CD/radio with removable security face, reversing sensors and more.
The French maker of the Mega City’s body has voluntarily ensured that it meets minimum car impact safety standards and has carried out crash testing to ensure passenger safety where it competitors have not. Furthermore the soft body panels and the absence of a hard engine underneath the bonnet make the car a safer vehicle for other road-users and pedestrians.
Emma Kennedy, an organiser of the recent Greener Ireland exhibition stated: “The Mega City makes a compelling argument as a second conventional car for shopping trips, school runs or commuting. We believe that it will be a huge draw for our patrons as it offers a first view of what we hope will become a standard sight in all our towns and cities.”
