HE’S Ballymun’s ultimate ‘local boy makes good’ and this week Oscar winner Glen Hansard came back to his roots to share his success with pupils at Our Lady of Victories School on Ballymun Road.Glen and his Czech partner, Markéta Irglová, popped into the primary school to perform their hit song ‘Falling Slowly’ and to take questions from the young pupils. The star-struck children also got their chance to shine as they sang for the duo and posed for pictures with the coveted Oscar. In February, the couple’s song won Hollywood’s most prestigious award for Best Original Song, which featured on the soundtrack of low-budget film ‘Once’. The movie, made for just e100,000, received worldwide acclaim and success for the Frames front-man and his talented singer/songwriter girlfriend. Home school liaison teacher Annette Healy, described the stars’ visit to Our Lady of Victories as “unforgettable”. “Glen’s niece goes to our school which is why he was more than happy to drop by,” she told Northside People. “It was such a great coup for the school to have two Oscar winners visit,” she said. “They were really very generous with their time and music. It was an occasion that the children and staff of our three schools will never forget. “It really was a once in a lifetime opportunity to be in the presence of Oscar winners, let alone to get to hold the Oscar.” Our Lady of Victories also celebrated its International Day last week. Children from over 20 nationalities attend the three schools. |
