kenya.jpgKENYA recorded a double success at the Great Ireland Run (10km) in the Phoenix Park last Sunday week (April 6).
Abraham Chebii in a time of 28:48 and Doris Changeywo in 32:15 won the men’s and women’s races respectively.
In the Junior Boys’ race, run over 2.7km, Stephen Gibney of Dundrum South Dublin Athletic Club came second in a time of 9:33, while in the Junior Girls’ section, run over the same distance, Niamh Doyle, from Celtic Athletic Club, based on the Navan Road, also came second in a time of 10:27.
The biggest winners on the day though were Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, and the Marie Keating Foundation, as participants were encouraged to raise funds for the event’s nominated charities.
Results:
Men: 1st - Abraham Chebii (Kenya) 28:48; 2nd - Ahmed Hassan Abdullah (Qatar) 28:51; 3rd - Sergiy Lebid (Ukraine) 28:59; 4th - Nick McCormick (Great Britain) 29:18; 5th - Martin Dent (Australia) 29:38; 6th - Ivan Babaryka (Ukraine) 29:41.
Women: 1st - Doris Changeywo (Kenya) 32:15; 2nd - Jo Pavey (Great Britain) 32:22; 3rd - Aniko Kalovics (Hungary) 32:45; 4th - Kate Reed (Great Britain) 32:50; 5th - Lisa Weightman (Australia) 32:58; 6th - Helen Clitheroe (Great Britain) 33:14.
Junior Run – Boys (2.7km): 1st - Christy O’Brien (Thurles Crokes) 8:52; 2nd - Stephen Gibney (Dundrum South Dublin) 9:33; 3rd - Kevin Dooney (CBC Monkstown) 9:42.
Junior Run – Girls (2.7km): 1st - Ciara Hewson (Leixlip AC) 10:08; 2nd - Niamh Doyle (Celtic AC) 10:27; 3rd - Emer Kennedy (Thurles Crokes) 10:30.
